The 2013 Excellence in Medical Practice was given to Dr. MERCY MERCED y GRAGERA of Tacloban City, Leyte, The Philippines.
She is the daughter of Irene Natividad Gragera y Alonzo and of Pedro Merced y Hernandez, the daughter of Filomena Hernandez and of Leon Merced y Arevalo, the son of Doña Rosario Arevalo (1st Wife) and of Don Anacleto Merced y Sauza, the second son of Don Simplicio Merced y Alonso and of Doña Salome Esperanza Ysabel Sauza y De Villa, the eldest child of Doña Aurea De Villa y Salud and of Don Anselmo Benedicto Onofre Sauza y Berenguer de Marquina, the youngest and the 11th child of Don Santiago Sauza y Delos Rios and of Doña Ysabel Berenguer de Marquina y Sumulong, the only child of Doña Demetria Sumulong y Lindo and of Señor Felix Berenguer de Marquina y FitzGerald, the 55th Governor-General of the Philippines of Alicante, Spain and from The Royal.& Noble House of FitzGerald of Ireland.
She is a well-known and well-respected medical doctor in Tacloban City. Her expertise in her field of discipline defines her as a doctor with a heart. Many of her students in a local medicine school describe her as a strict educator yet a concern doctor who really would like to hone her students to be the best doctors that they can be. She stands for what is right and who knows she will be a lawyer too someday.
