The Grand Matriarch of the Familia Sauza-Berenguer de Marquina in the Republic of the Philippines was Doña Ysabel Berenguer de Marquina y Sumulong who was born on 19 November 1790 at Cagsawa, Provincia de Albay, Filipinas. She died on 30 January 1900, Banwa, Batan, Provincia de Capiz (presently Aklan), The Philippines. She was buried at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Banwa, Batan, Provincia de Capiz (presently Aklan), The Philippines. She was the only child of Doña Demetria Sumulong y Lindo (21 June 1772, Antipolo, Filipinas - 01 February 1814, Cagsawa, Provincia de Albay, Filipinas) and of Señor Felix Berenguer de Marquina y FitzGerald (20 November 1736, Alicante, Spain - 10 October 1826, Alicante, Spain) from The Royal and Noble House of FitzGerald of Ireland who was married to Doña Maria Anstoategui y Barron in 1758 in Spain. Moreover, Señor Felix Berenguer de Marquina y FitzGerald was the 55th Governor-General of the Republic of the Philippines (1788-1793) and the Viceroy of New Spain (1800-1803).
The Grand Patriarch of the Familia Sauza-Berenguer de Marquina in the Republic of the Philippines was Don Santiago Sauza y Delos Rios who was born on 23 April 1777 at Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico. He died on 25 December 1880 at Intramuros, Manila, Filipinas. He was buried at Parroquia de San Ignacio in Intramuros, Manila, Filipinas. He was the 22nd gobernadorcillo and the 7th alcalde capitan of Pueblo de Mariquina (presently Marikina City), Provincia de Tondo, Filipinas. He was one of the founders of the first paper mill in the Philippines.
Don Santiago Sauza y Delos Rios and Doña Ysabel Berenguer de Marquina y Sumulong had 11 children. They lived and owned the Hacienda Sauza-Berenguer de Marquina (1809-1870). This was located along the riverbanks of Marikina from the present Tumana, Sto. Niño, Marikina City to Rosario, Pasig City, Philippines. Presently, part of the Hacienda Sauza-Berenguer de Marquina is the resident block of the Sauza clan in Sto. Niño, Marikina City, Philippines.
