The 2013 Excellence in Media was given posthumously to JOAQUIN ROCES y PARDO of Manila, The Philippines.

He was the husband of Pacita Carvajal y Perez de Tagle, the daughter of Doña Maria Amanda Perez De Tagle and of Don Arturo Jose Carvajal Sr. y Sauza, the son of Doña Maria Carvajal and of Don Prudecion Quiterio Sauza y Tuazon, the 5th child of Doña Matilde Tuazon y Dela Peña and of Don Miguel Juan Santiago Sauza y Berenguer de Marquina, the seventh child of Don Santiago Sauza and of  Doña Ysabel Berenguer de Marquina y Sumulong, the only child of Doña Demetria Sumulong y Lindo and of Señor Felix Berenguer de Marquina y FitzGerald, the 55th Governor-General of the Philippines of Alicante, Spain and from The Royal.& Noble House of FitzGerald of Ireland.

He was also known as Chino, the son of Don Moy Roces and of Doña Nena Pardo. His contributions in the Philippine media were precisely remarkable. He founded the Associated Broadcasting Company (ABC). He revived The Manila Time, the oldest English newspaper in the Philippines. He founded the Philippine Press Institute that gave codes of ethics for Philippine newspapers.

He fought bravely for democracy against the Martial Law of President Ferdinand Marcos. He was a silent humanitarian worker who helped unconditionally the flood victims in 1972, the Ruby Tower survivors in 1968 and the Taal Volcano eruption in 1965. 

You can now nominate for The Excellence in Media. This award is given posthumously to any descendant of the Sauza family and of the Familia Sauza-Berenguer de Marquina who gave remarkable contribution in the progress of media in his / her place or in another place.
